Woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) (Yamada Shoin reprint) - Suruga-cho - From the series 'Meisho Edo hyakkei' 名所江戸百景 (One Hundred Famous Views of Edo) - ca. 1965
Hiroshige started with the design of his final big series in 1856. The series consists of 118 landscape designs, in a vertical format. 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo' is regarded as a masterpiece and contains some of Hiroshige's most memorable designs.
In ca. 1965 the Tokyo publisher Yamada Shoin published reprints of the series 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo'. A total of 60 images were published.
These very beautiful reprints were made in accordance with the same norms as set by the originals, and feature the same vivid colours and soft 'bokashi' shading. High-quality copies!
