Nine rare Art Deco tiles from an Amsterdam School near Surinameplein 1925.
The wife of the person who sold them to me, told me that they are from Corantijn Primary School.
The tiles are made at the tile factory Schiedam in 1925.
This factory has made tiles for only three schools.
Every child was pointed out a tile at the school with underneath it a coatrack hook. The child then knew where to hang his or her jacket.
The school where the tiles come from, was refurbished approximately 30 years ago, and the tiles were removed.
The tiles are 12 x 12 cm.
During the production process part of the back of tiles often got stuck in the mould. However, these tiles were used anyway, because the were bricked. Hence the "damage". You can also see this on the cement or lime layer at the back of the tile.
