Louis Willem van Soest. Poerwordjo (Indonesia) 1867 -
1948 The Hague.
Lived and worked in Amsterdam, Aachen, Rozendaal, Laag-Soeren, Dieren, Velp, Wassenaar, Paris, Wiesbaden and The Hague.
Self-taught, from 1891 when he lived in The Hague he devoted himself entirely to art.
His great veneration for the Hague School provided the same motivation as the landscapes of Goos. In 1881 in The Hague his talent was recognized and with among others J H. Weissenbruch, the insatiable outdoor painter, he went into the field. In his time Louis van Soest was a great person in the art world of The Hague. Since 1892 he was a member of the Art Societies Arti et Amecitiae, Pulchri Studio, St.Lucas, Haagse Kunstkring, Artibus, Hollandse Tekenmaatschappij Den Haag.
Painted in impressionistic style landscapes (forest and winter), interiors, navies, cityscapes and cattle.
Beautiful, probably painted en plein air, impressionistic summer landscape with female on a forest path. The painting is oil paint on paper, doubled on cardboard. Very nice condition and with original 19th century frame. Origin Art Gallery Carmelli & Tessaro, a very famous Gallery with locations in The Hague, Amsterdam and Utrecht.
