Reproduction poster from 1972 of the documentary film "La Croisiere Jaune" about an expedition to the Far East; the trip left in Beirut, Lebanon across the old Silk Road to Indochina and China.
André Citroen sponsored this trip and the vehicles that were used were Citroen half-tracks. There previously was a "Croisiere Noire" in the 1920s, across Africa and the publicity was so great that Citroen repeated the adventure in the 1930s but this time heading for Asia.
When the documentary was done, André Citroen found it to be so poor of quality that he had it edited by a different director before the film was shown to the general public.
This also resulted in the abrupt ending of the career of the original director André Sauvage. None of his recordings were found in the archives.
