In 8vo, pp. 16, 461, 1, 18. Antique leather binding Title page in a rich printed frame, typographic brand on the last page Beautiful and uncommon edition of this famous work first published in 1545.
The editions were many from 1613 onwards.
This copy was printed between the first edition and the edition of the 1613 from which then were taken the numerous reprints. Of the life of Aelianus we know what Philostratus tells us in his Lives of the Sophists. Student in Rome of the sophist Pausania he learned, from the precepts of the Second Sophistic, Greek writing, to the point of being nicknamed μελίγλωσσος (meliglossos, honey tongue) for the accuracy and effectiveness of his style.
Beautiful copy in excellent condition. Text on two columns, one for the Greek version and one for the version in Latin.
